The Faith Academy of Marble Falls football team will begin fall training camp from 7-10 a.m. Monday-Thursday, Aug. 5-8.

Its final practice of the week is from 9 p.m.-midnight Friday, Aug. 9, after the academy hosts its Back to School Blast.

Head coach Jay Silvers, who is starting his first season in charge of the program, had one big reason for the Friday practice.

“A lot of these young boys want to know what it’s like to play under the lights in Texas,” he said. “It’s an end-of-week practice, which will be nice. We’ll have fun doing it. And it’s just to get the boys more excited about doing it.”

Silvers was projecting 15 players on the 2024 team. Out of that number, more than half make up the “core group” of Flames who participated in summer strength and conditioning on the campus. That also means they won’t have to spend a lot of time getting players in shape.

“They started to get acclimated,” he said. “Starting off, it’ll be more of working on fundamentals and conditioning. We have three weeks until our first scrimmage. In the first week, we’ll work on conditioning and fundamentals. The second week, let’s get our scheme work done.”

Silvers, who served as the defensive coordinator for the last couple of years and has been on staff for at least four years, is taking over as the offensive coordinator. His scheme combines his power running game with the passing attack former head coach Stephen Shipley implemented.

The new head coach presented the base offense to the players and indicated they liked it.

“Most of them are familiar with the system Shipley and I were working on,” he said. “We have some ideas of how to open it up. It’s becoming almost second nature. I feel pretty good about it.”

Silvers looked forward to seeing the Flames execute the running plays, pointing out the squad has “big backs.”

“We have a ton of speed,” he said. “We’re going to spread everything out and make everyone chase us.”
